Alan has done a meme. Alan hardly ever does a meme, so if he does one, it's usually decent. This one is, of course, so I'm doing it, too. 'Cause I'm a sheep like that...

Anyway, the instructions of the meme are as follows if you're interested...

1) Go to Wikipedia

2) In the search box, type your birth month and day but not the year.

3) List three events that happened on your birthday

4) List two important birthdays and one death

5) One holiday or observance (if any)

My birthday is November 18th, so here are my answers:

Events:
1307 - According to legend, William Tell shoots an apple off of his son's head.
1883 - American and Canadian railroads institute five standard continental time zones, ending the confusion of thousands of local times.
1978 - Jonestown incident: In Guyana, Jim Jones leads his Peoples Temple cult in a mass murder-suicide that claims 918 lives in all, 909 of them at Jonestown itself, including over 270 children. Congressman Leo J. Ryan is assassinated by members of Peoples Temple shortly beforehand.

Two birthdays and a death:
1901 - George Gallup, American statistician and opinion pollster (d. 1984)
1968 - Owen Wilson, American actor
1962 - Niels Bohr, Danish physicist, Nobel Prize laureate (b. 1885)

Observance:
Dedication of the Basilicas of Saints Peter and Paul (Roman Catholic Calendar)
