Well, it was an interesting holiday weekend. I managed to end it up in style yesterday, by being the victim of a hit-and-run "accident", by a likely drunk driver. I was driving along one of the more major thoroughfares of town, when an as yet unknown person in an old red pickup truck apparently decided that I was going too slow for his taste. I have to consider the possibility that he never really understood that I was there at all, considering his actions. I might have been going an mph or two over the speed limit, in the left-hand lane since I was passing another car, when this maniac came speeding up behind the fellow in the right-hand lane, then changed lanes and barreled up behind me, hitting me square in the back end. Not once, but twice before I could get myself out of his way and off the road. At which point, he sped off as if I had never even been there at all. I managed to get what I believe is an accurate license plate number, then called 9-1-1. The fellow that I had been passing pulled over and stayed with me until the police came to take a report. As you can see, my car is somewhat the worse for wear, but thankfully, I was spared major injury. I went to the clinic this afternoon and was pronounced "fit", except for some major soreness in the muscles of my arms and shoulders. I assume this is from clutching at the steering wheel while trying to get out of the maniac's way. The doctor at the clinic prescribed a drug called Tramadol, which name is giving me no end of amusement. I half expected an accompanying prescription for Fukitol...

The car may or may not be considered "totaled", as the insurance company will determine in the next couple of days. There is about $2000 worth of damage; I'm not exactly sure what the value of the car itself is, but we're cutting it close here, I'd imagine. I hope that they go on and let me fix it, since I'm not eager to go deeper into debt on a new car. Student loans still loom overhead, doncha know...

Anyway, I've taken a half-day off today, due to the pain and all the running to doctor and mechanic. We'll see if this medication does any good for the pain and give things another go tomorrow...
