As I was saying, I went to Richmond last weekend to listen to my friends in the bagpipe band play and take photos of them. While I was there, I met the young man pictured here. His name is Jesse, and he's the stepson of one of drummers, Rick, with whom I've been friends for a very long time. Jesse also plays with the band, bagpipes, but was not playing last weekend because he had only just come in from his base to visit his family. Yes, Jesse is a Marine. He has served in Iraq and was only in for the weekend. In fact, he had to turn around and go back to base the next day. I did as I generally like to do when presented with the opportunity, and shook his hand, thanked him for his service to his country, and then asked how old he is. I asked because I wanted to buy him a beer, but as it turned out he is still a month shy of his 21st birthday. This young man has risked life and limb in a land half a world away, and I couldn't even buy him a beer! How ironic! There should be special dispensation of some sort for military personnel that allows them to drink at age 18 or something. Also, note the most excellent tattoos on his arm. Someone did some really good work, there... Anyway, I'll climb down from my soapbox for a bit now. Just wanted to put that out there...
