So I found out the other day that one of my coworkers, Angela, is in a bagpipe band, the Kentucky United Pipes & Drums. Even better, I found out that a couple of old friends of mine, Barry and Rick, are also in the band. Small world indeed! Barry and Rick and I, along with some others, were in a '50's and '60's band called "DropTop" about 15 years ago. (Hard for me to think that I was part of anything that long ago...*sigh*) Anyway, Angela invited me to come to their practice on Tuesday and hang out. So I did. It was very cool to see Rick again (Barry's out of town, apparently...) and listen to the pipes and drums. Angela had warned me that Rick would try to "recruit" me for the band almost immediately, and that's exactly what he did. Never mind that I've never played drums in my life--"As I remember, you've got rhythm!" As I remember, I played tambourine with DropTop, and not all that well... I am doing a little bit of work for them, though; they are a non-profit organization, and I told Angela that I would do some design work for them this summer if they needed it. I need to keep in practice, and having something specific to work on is better for me than just making stuff up out of my head... Right now, I am helping to design their cap badge. It will be a brooch sort of badge that they wear on their caps, made out of pewter. They have a fellow who does tool and die work that will manufacture the badges for them once a design is done. I'm hoping that they will choose one of my designs and that I will get one of the badges to put in my portfolio when all is said and done. In any case, I had a great time on Tuesday, and took a bunch of photos while I was there, both of the band and of the park. I've posted them over at my fotopage for all to see...
Hi, I'm Debi. Once in a while I have a thought and I like to write it down before it goes away. This is where I write it.
