Wow, this has been quite a day! I'm so excited I can hardly contain myself. A few days ago, I entered three photographs and the drum that I made in ceramics class into the EKU Student Art Show. It's a juried show, which means that they had a professor from another school (University of Cincinnati painting professor Tarrence Corbin, in this case) come in and judge the works submitted to determine which ones would make it into the show. Well, my drum and one of my photographs made it into the show. Not only that, but Mr. Corbin asked to purchase the photo that got in, which I had priced at $40. Very cool--that will cover all of my expenses to get everything matted and ready to submit. And, one of my teachers has told me that the photo won an award, but wouldn't tell me what award I won. Holy crap! The first show I have ever entered, and I've won an award! I'm trying really hard here not to let this go to my head, but holy crap! (I may end up saying that to myself a few times before this is all over.) Now, of course, the award may be one of the gift certificates for art supplies, but that's cool. It'll still look good on my resumè, all the same. And I could use the gift certificate... :^) So the opening and awards ceremony is this Sunday at 2PM at the Giles Gallery in the Campbell Bldg at EKU in Richmond. Anyone who is in the area and would like to attend is welcome. The show will be up until April 21st. I'm glad that tomorrow's payday--I think I may have to go shopping for an outfit to wear to the opening! :^)
