All I can say is: it's about time, people! Of course, I'm talking about tonight's American Idol results show. Finally, the weak-voiced, quavery, can't-carry-a-tune-in-a-bucket, crooner wannabe, John Stevens, was voted off. Way to go, America! I had just about decided that American Idol was not worth my viewing time, especially after my "sentimental favorite", Jon Peter Lewis, got voted off a couple of weeks ago. And then there was the travesty of last week's show, wherein the three best singers in the competition were the three lowest vote-getters, and Jennifer Hudson got voted off. John Stevens should never even have gotten into the final 12, IMHO, as they say (or type). But now, hopefully the competition has turned a corner and we can get down to the business of seeing people with real talent develop it. Yeah, I know, I should have better things to do with my time, and of course I do. I can't help it; I'm an Idol-holic. (OK, I'm gonna let you in on a little secret here before I step down off the soapbox--I hate it when people do what I just did in that last sentence--take whatever they are fans of or can't get enough of for no good reason, and add the suffix "-holic" to the end of it. It's just not good English, and maybe diminishes the seriousness of alcoholism to just another little quirk. Yeah, yeah, I'm done now.)
