Well, that's what I get for trying to be fancy--I had this long, lovely blog entry all typed out, and then did something stupid and lost the whole thing.....don't ask. At least I'm cool, finally. The maintenance guy came and fixed my air conditioning today. It felt good to come home and not get a furnace blast when I opened the door. Yesterday, I added my name to yet another e-mail list. I went to my search engine and looked up "etymology", and found this site that will send me a word a day, along with the origin and definition of the word. Boring for most folks, I know, but I kinda like to fill my brain with just that sort of "useless information." You'd be surprised how many times one of those tidbits have come in handy. Anyway, I'm looking forward to my newest "toy." I checked out a few of the blogs on my list this evening and found some interesting items. Water's Edge described an interesting "stations" worship experience involving salt and light that I'd like to duplicate at VBCC. I think I'll suggest it to Alan. (Alan, consider it suggested if you're reading this.) I've also been thinking a lot about the discussion of "building-mindedness" that we seem to not be able to get away from, even if we think we're being all cutting-edge and stuff. I'd like for us to do some outdoor worship now and again. It almost seems "pagan" to think about a group of worshippers in a grove of trees, singing songs and sharing bread and wine, but many of our spiritual forefathers (and -mothers) did just that, out of persecution or poverty or preference. There's something attractive about the notion of being close to God, with no ceiling or walls separating. I think there's also a kind of spiritual metaphor involved of not "putting God in a box," literally. Something to mull over..... posted by #Debi at 9:54 PM | permalink |
